About this Trip

Just north of Kitchener-Waterloo is a beautiful, pastoral region of rolling farmland, gentle rivers, and Ontario's oldest and most active Old Order Mennonite community. We'll spend our first two days exploring this region by bike, occasionally sharing the roads with traditional horse and buggy transportation. We’ll enjoy delicious food from local bakeries and Ontario's most famous farmer's market and learn about the Mennonite communities that call this region home. Choose to stay a third day and catch your own meal fly-fishing in the Grand River!

Sample Itinerary

The trip begins in the evening before our first day of riding, you'll check into your lodge in the late afternoon where your guide will meet you for a drink and to chat about what to expect over the next few days.

Day 1 - After a hearty breakfast, we'll grab our bikes and head out for our first day of riding. Passing by peaceful pastoral scenery and picturesque streams, we'll make our way to a local farm where we'll go for a walk along the Conestogo River, search for Osprey nests and enjoy a relaxed lunch before a quick stretching session and heading back out for the second half of our ride. We'll wind up in the late afternoon and explore the town of Fergus where we'll enjoy a well-earned pizza dinner.

Day 2 - We'll start off this morning by riding through Elora, past the spectacular Elora Gorge and towards the historic Saint Jacobs farmer's market. At the market we'll hop off our bikes and stretch our legs (and stomachs) on a delicious food tour of the legendary market. Filled with food and energy, we'll get back on our bikes and begin exploring the local towns and communities on two wheels, stopping to check out handmade furniture stops, and, of course, local bakeries and cafes. We'll wrap up the day with a stroll along the Grand River and the Elora Gorge, saying goodbye to our bikes and getting excited for tomorrow's river adventure.

Day 3 (Optional) - After two days of cycling, we'll sleep in a little bit today and get in a nice stretch and breakfast before heading out for our fly fishing experience. We'll head to Wilson Flats, one of the province's best fly fishing spots and just minutes from our lodge, where our instructor will meet us with rods and reels. We'll practise the art of casting and spend a peaceful morning on the river, hopefully with some bites and maybe even a catch or two. We'll wrap up the trip with a picnic by the river, a celebratory toast and hopefully a freshly fried fish!
